J-E-T-S

Monday Morning Quarterback

By LIZ GORKOWSKI

I grew up a Giants fan but when I went to Hofstra University somehow I found myself rooting for the Jets.  It was hard not to feel some allegiance to them as their practice facility was on the Hofstra campus right next to our beautiful (arhhmm) Physical Fitness Center.  They would play pick up with us in the rec center during the summers, our stud player at Hofstra Wayne Chrebet made the team, Richie Kotite’s daughter enrolled at Hofstra, our assistant soccer coach tried out for an open kickers position, our trainer was married to Chad Pennington and one of my basketball teammates married a NY JET.    However it has been a torturous secret loyalty as they never seemed to do very well and at my parents house you couldn’t openly cheer for the Jets since everyone was a NY Giants fan.

Now at long last with their win yesterday over the Chargers the Jets have provided all their loyal fans a reason to hope, an opportunity to talk some trash to the Giants fans and cause to keep their jerseys out for at least one more Sunday in January.  Last night on Facebook, Clancy the quietest player on my soccer and basketball team at Hofstra, posted a Wooohooo as her status and for her that must have been like dancing in the streets of Wantagh, NY.  So to all you JETS fans keep out your jerseys (but keep your Mets jersey in the closet because there really is no hope for you, sorry Ralphie) tie on your all white sneakers, pull on your jean shorts and keep chanting J-E-T-S.
