Upset!
BY SCREAMIN' LEEMAN
"When you're a Jet, you're a Jet all the way, from the first QB sack to the last final play..."
Oh, boy! Did everyone see what the Jets did to Tom Brady and the all-mighty New England Patriots yesterday? Was that a thing of beauty, or what? My new favorite team! Yes!
That the Jets were the TEN-POINT underdogs made it all that much sweeter. That New England was picked by many to win the Super Bowl makes it sweeter still.
You know, everyone likes an underdog. Everyone likes a no-name.
One of the great things about sports in general is that ya just can't figure. That at any time, a team that is supposed to be a pushover will come up and bite your butt! And when that happens, it is a beautiful thing!
And please, what is the name of the Jets quarterback? Oh, yeah. Mark Sanchez. How long has he been there? This is his second year? Well, golly gee, how do you like that?
Maybe the Patriots weren't aware of the several late game comebacks pulled off by Sanchez and the Jets this season. Most likely, they took the Jets for granted, having beaten them by 42 points just six weeks ago.
As a matter of fact, I'm sure that the Patriots are still shaking their collective heads in disbelief, as they begin to figure out their prospects for NEXT YEAR, and try to decide where they'll be WATCHING the Super Bowl.
Now, maybe all the braggadocio coming from the Jets camp during the week was thought to be just that. Maybe most folks were writing it off as false bravado.
I myself didn't even set aside time to watch the game, I was so sure it was going to be a blowout. So the wife and I made arrangements to visit a relative in the hospital and run some errands. I just happened to turn on the TV while we were getting ready to leave, and lo and behold, the Jets were leading 7 to 3.
What? Huh?
What kind of a blowout is this?
So when we got to the hospital, I snuck off to an empty room, and got the game on in the second quarter. Had to check, after all. Most likely, the Jets' early lead was a fluke, and Tom Brady and his Patriots, being the Super Bowl caliber team that they're supposed to be, would pick up the pace and go ahead and take what is rightfully theirs.
But NO! It was not to be!
Jets take a 14 to 3 lead into the third quarter. And whenever the Patriots showed some life (they did close it to 14 to 11 at one point), the Jets came back to pound them home some more.
Later, we were in a restaurant, that didn't have a TV (What the heck is that about??!), so I had to sneak out to the car radio to see what was happening.
And guess what? It wasn't changing. The Jets were in control. The Patriots were scuffling, playing from behind all day. They might as well have been the underdogs. They were being manhandled. Brady was sacked FIVE times. Then, as the clock began winding down, with the Jets showing that they were obviously the better team, I began to get really happy.
Wow. What fun!
Ya gotta love it! I'm picking the Jets to go all the way.
Anyone else want to jump on the bandwagon?
