Cowboys Couldn't Stop Favre
Congratulations Keith Brooking, you have put yourself into the all time Sports Quotes Hall of Fame. After the Vikings tacked on a late touchdown in their playoff beat down of the Cowboys, Brooking said, '' "I thought it was B.S. Granted, we get paid to stop them, but we had zero timeouts left." The Cowboys over sensitive linebacker is correct, in that he and the rest of the Cowboys defenseless defense were paid to stop Brett Favre and the Viks high octane offense.
But, as the 34-3 meltdown would indicate, the Cowboys defense was like Godot. You kept waiting for it to show up. And what does not having any timeouts have to do with the situation? Keith, we understand the only time you guys were able to stop the Viks offense was when you did use a timeout, but, if your defense showed half as much fight on the field as you showed on the Viks sideline immediately after Favre's fourth touchdown pass of the game, we wouldn't be having this discussion. I'm sorry you were upset that Favre decided to pad his stats, but, you would be wise to follow the advice of that ESPN talking head Lou Holtz, who once said, 'It's our job to score points. It's their job to stop us from scoring points."
Brooking's misguided comments included this gem, "I thought it was totally classless and disrespectful. This is the NFL, that's not what this is about." Keith, the NFL also isn't about not showing up when you're supposed to report to work. Just because the Cowboys quit, doesn't mean the Vikings needed to as well. The next time the Cowboys decide to mail one in, here's hoping the opposition delivers an even bigger whupping than the Mauling at the Mall of America Field.
