Kids Coaching Kids: Sills to USC
Remember when you were in the 7th grade? Your biggest concern was how you were going to cover up your pimples. David Sills is a 13 year old middle school quarterback from Delaware with much larger concerns. Not only is Sills 5-11, he stands heads and shoulders above his peers when it comes to commitment. Stills has made a verbal commitment to play college football at USC for new Trojans coach Lane Kiffin. It's ironic that a 13 year old kid would make a commitment to play for a man who laughs at the word commitment (see U. of Tennessee).
Since 2006, Sills has been trained in California about six or seven times a year by quarterback guru Steve Clarkson, who has worked with Matt Leinart, Ben Roethlisberger and current USC quarterback Matt Barkley. Clarkson says Sills is the best he's ever coached. Perhaps this man-child should just skip college and and make a commitment to play for an NFL team. I'm not suggesting that a 13 year old making a commitment to do something that won't be realized for 6 years is the most ridiculous thing in the history of sports, but it ranks up there with Peter McNeeley wanting to fight Mike Tyson, and the Spurs thinking Jerry Tarkanian would be a good NBA coach.
This is nothing short of insane. Like all 13 year olds, Sills should go pubic, before he goes public. Pre-pubescent boys should worry about their prom date, not their college enrollment date. But, if nothing else, it's nice to see Kiffin surrounding himself with someone on his level of maturity.
