Butler's Future

Maximum Sports

BY MAX BERMAN

Just a day after his collision during the Final Four game against Duke, West Virginia Forward, Da’Sean Butler, was diagnosed with a torn ACL in his left knee. Seconds after impact with Duke Forward, Brian Zoubek, Butler collapsed. West Virginia Coach, Bob Huggins, sarcastically said to the referee, “They don’t foul, right John? They don’t foul.

All-American laying here and they don’t foul.” Huggins then got down on the floor and had a very special moment with his star. Butler wasn’t as concerned about his knee as he was about letting everyone down. He kept apologizing to Huggins. Huggins then told him he let no one down and that he loved him. It was honestly the most meaningful encounter I have ever seen between a coach and a player, in any sport. It came nowhere near the bond shared when a Championship is won. Butler was then helped off the court and taken to the locker room. He has been diagnosed with a torn ACL. Butler was a senior and leaves West Virginia as the third leading scorer in school history with 2,095 points. And where does he go from there? I believe his basketball career will never be the same. Or it could go on as it is now. Depends on the heart and toughness of Butler, and according to Coach Huggins, he’s one of the toughest with a lot of heart.
