I Thought I Was Watching Football
BY MAX BERMAN
This Sunday I was watching the Houston Texans play the Tennessee Titans. Late in the fourth quarter, the game turned into a hockey-like brawl. Titans’ defensive back, Cortland Finnegan and Texans’ wide receiver, Andre Johnson got into a fistfight, which got them both ejected.
I’m all for football being physical because when it's a contact sport. But players should know when enough is enough. And even though both players acted out to a point that's unacceptable, I don’t believe a suspension is necessary. Remember, both players were ejected for their actions on the field. But, if the league decides that more severe action must be taken, then I would go with a fine for each player. What caused the outbreak was simply both players getting under each other’s skin. But that’s what sports brings everyday. And without it, games would not be the same. I feel the ejections, and maybe a fine, are enough “punishment.” If more action is taken, such as an unnecessary suspension, I will be very upset. And to be honest, I don’t think I'll be alone.
